In a Nutshell:
Born in Buffalo New York in April
of 1986, Sarah Jean Maefs grew up with her mother, father, two older brothers,
and one younger sister. She attended school locally and always expressed
herself through art where she excelled at an early age; winning school and
county awards for her works. After reading several books by talented, but young authors, she decided not to let
her dyslexia hold her back and gave a go at writing herself. She hasn’t looked
back since.
Now 21, Sarah writes and draws
still while also working and taking care of her family. She has dedicated years
to learning and researching both history and lore of Vampires, Witches, and Lycanthropes.
With this knowledge she has built an entirely fresh world of her own consisting
of imaginative and unique characters.
Sarah credits Disney among her
inspirations, though you would be hard-pressed to find its influence within her
writings, “It’s there if one looks deep enough” she says. Other inspirations
are Amelia Atwater-Rhodes, Laurel K. Hamilton, and even J.K.
Rowling. She also has hopes of being published and says “I am a huge Harry
Potter fan, and knowing that Jo was rejected by three publishers before finally
finding one that would print her work inspires me to never give up and to not
draw my self-worth from others whose approval is so fleeting.”
Sarah is currently working on her
three book trilogy and has future works planned such as a prequel, and another series.
